Having trouble keeping up with the latest technology trends? Touch screen phones are on the rise and are steadily becoming the new norm for cell phones. Apple, Palm, Nokia, HTC, and T-Mobile have all announced new touch screen phones recently. These smart phones offer a bundle of features so choosing the right phone for you may be interesting.

If you’re looking for the smaller, pocket sized touch screen phones, you might consider the Samsung Galaxy or the Samsung Omnia II. The phones are 0.46 in and are the smallest of the most recently released. Next in line are the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS at 0.48 in. If you’re more concerned with fashion or personality, the Nokia 5530 is the lightest but also comes in a combination of 5 different colors allowing you to choose the one that fits your personality the best.

If texting is your thing, most of the touch screen phones come with touch screen keyboards. However, typing on the touch screen might take some getting used to. The Android and iPhone keyboards offer auto-correct features and software designed to predict what you are typing. For those that don’t like the touch screen keyboards, the Palm Pre, HTC Touch Pro2, and Nokia N97 come with a full QWERTY keyboard. Of these three, the Palm Pre is oriented vertically and is therefore the smallest of the three.

If you’re into taking pictures on your phone, the Nokia N97, Samsung Galaxy, and Samsung Omnia II have been reported as having the best cameras among the touch screen phones. They each sport a 5-megapixel lens, autofocus, and an LED flash. The HTC Hero has a 5-megapixel camera as well, but it doesn’t have a flash. The Nokia N97, HTC Touch Pro 2, and Samsung Omnia II all include front facing cameras for video calls.

Most touch screen phones are now allowing you to record video. In fact, many of them such as the HTC Hero, T-Mobile myTouch 3G, and the Samsung Galaxy are allowing you to upload video straight to YouTube. There are a few touch screen phones such as the iPhone 3G and Palm Pre that don’t record video as of yet. But chances are, they will in the near future.

GPS is becoming a standard feature on touch screen phones now. The Nokia 5530 doesn’t include GPS, but most of the others do. There are also built in GPS capabilities now that allow you to generate geotags, or automatic tags that indicate where the picture was taken. There are many other features that vary by phone.

Applications are another key factor when comparing the touch screen phones. They all have sophisticated operating systems now and each of them is seeking to improve the features of their application stores. Apple introduced it’s iTunes App Store which has led to the other manufacturers to follow suit.

Wi-Fi connectivity and Bluetooth capability is pretty much a standard across the board with touch screen phones. The bottom line is that you want to find a phone that compliments your preferences. Be sure to compare the different touch screen phones and narrow them down to the one that fits you the best. Most are very similar and making the right purchase may be a tough decision for some.
